Seven alumni "masters" returned to campus to share their experience and advice with current students November 2 – 5, 2011. These alumni were honored for their accomplishments, and had the chance to show students how they have applied their education to their careers.

Damon Barry is vice president of business affairs and assistant general counsel for CSG Systems International, Inc., a leading provider of software and services. In this role, he advises executive management on a wide range of corporate legal and business issues as well as corporate growth strategies. He has played a key role in a number of mergers, acquisitions and transactions exceeding $2 billion in value. Over the years, Damon has served as a director on several non-profit boards and other committees, including being appointed by Colorado Governor Bill Ritter to serve on the Economic Development and International Trade Transition Advisory Committee. Ebony magazine recognized him as one of its "30 Leaders of the Future." Barry is being hosted by the College of Law. |
![]() | Kate Bingaman-Burt, '04Bingaman-Burt is being hosted by the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts. Kate Bingaman-Burt is an assistant professor of graphic design at Portland State University. She founded Obsessive Consumption in 2002 and has documented her personal consumption in many different mediums. Her first book, "Obsessive Consumption: What Did You Buy Today?," was published by Princeton Architectural Press in April 2010. She provided all of the illustrations for the book "Handmade Nation: The Rise of DIY, Art, Craft and Design" as well as the promotional materials for the documentary of the same name. She also conducts zine workshops, talks at design conferences and spreads the craftivism word. Bingaman-Burt is being hosted by the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts. |

H. Robert Douglass, '63Douglass is being hosted by the College of Architecture.
Robert Douglass has focused his career on the intersection of healthcare delivery and architecture. He has worked for the Leo A. Daly firm in Omaha and Caudill Rowlett Scott firm in Houston where he developed innovative approaches to the delivery of hospital and healthcare projects. In 1975 he founded his consulting firm, Robert Douglass Associates, which quickly became a national leader in strategic and facility planning for healthcare facilities, with particular expertise in university teaching hospitals. He sold RDA to Deloitte & Touche and retired from that partnership. He later initiated his solo practice as Douglass Planning and Architecture. This firm completed more than 20 medical center plans and designs in the U.S. and Pacific Region before he retired from active practice in 2004. He now enjoys life as an artist and occasional adviser to not-for-profit community improvement projects. Douglass is being hosted by the College of Architecture. |

John Kennedy, II, '05Kennedy is being hosted by the College of Education and Human Sciences.
John Kennedy is a corporate chef at Blue Bunny®. He joined Wells, the makers of Blue Bunny® ice cream in 2005 as the company's first Culinologist. His responsibilities include researching, evaluating and implementing new technologies and trends in food; creating new ice cream related desserts; demonstrating Blue Bunny recipes for food editors; participating in cooking shows; appearing in media opportunities with top chefs; and the toughest part of his job, sampling ice cream. He is a Certified Culinary Scientist, member of the Research Chef's Association, Certified Chef with the American Culinary Federation, Toastmasters Organization member and Certified Toastmaster Master, and sits on the board of the International Dairy Queen Chef's Council. For the record, Kennedy's favorite flavor of ice cream is Blue Bunny Peanut Butter Panic®. Kennedy is being hosted by the College of Education and Human Sciences. |

Loren Lutes, '60, '61Lutes is being hosted by the College of Engineering. Loren Lutes is a professor emeritus of civil engineering at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. He received his Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology in 1967, and was a faculty member at Rice University until going to Texas A&M in 1988. He has also taught at the University of Chile in South America, the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Auburn University and George Washington University. He is co-author of two books and numerous papers. In May 2000 he was presented the Alfred M. Freudenthal Medal of the American Society of Civil Engineers for his research contributions related to structural reliability. Lutes is being hosted by the College of Engineering. |

Therese McGuire, '78McGuire is being hosted by the College of Arts and Sciences. Therese McGuire is a professor of management and strategy and a ConAgra Foods Research Professor in the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. She is also a Faculty Fellow at the university's Institute for Policy Research. Her areas of expertise include state and local public finance, fiscal decentralization, property tax limitations, education finance and regional economic development. Her current research includes fiscal decentralization and solidarity as well as productivity spillovers of headquarter firms. She holds a Ph.D. in economics from Princeton University and has contributed to several publications in her field. McGuire is being hosted by the College of Arts and Sciences. |

Allan Noddle, '62Noddle is being hosted by the College of Business Administration.
Allan Noddle is the president of Daymon Worldwide in Greenwich, Conn., and a guest lecturer in the Business School at Cornell University. He has been a panelist, guest speaker, counselor and adviser to numerous companies in the food industry. He started his career as a trainee at Hinky Dinky Supermarkets of Omaha, and rose to the position of executive vice president and COO. He also held executive positions at various stores owned by Royal Ahold, the world’s most successful global food provider. He was responsible for Ahold's operations in Latin America and Asia and was the first American to be asked to serve on the company's corporate executive board. His experience has entailed working in 28 countries on four continents. Noddle is being hosted by the College of Business Administration. |

Teresa Poggenpohl, '83Poggenpohl is being hosted by the College of Business Administration.
Teresa Poggenpohl is executive director - global image for Accenture and is responsible for shaping the company's brand and position in the market in support of the company's strategic agenda. She has functional responsibility for advertising, brand management, internet market¬ing and marketing research. In 2001, Teresa devised what the media and industry analyst community reported as the largest and most successful rebranding initiative undertaken by a business-to-business company - rebranding market leader Andersen Consulting. She also crafted award-winning image building advertising campaigns, created the first global research function for Accenture and established, from a base in London, England, a European Marketing and Communications function. Roger Wehrbein, '60Wehrbein is being hosted by the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.
Roger Wehrbein is a livestock producer and farmer at Breeze Valley Farms, Inc.; Wehrbein Farms, Inc.; and D& R Livestock Co. Partnership. He was the Cass County Commissioner from 1974 to 1983 and was elected as the District 2 representative to the Nebraska State Legislature for five terms. He is currently a member of many organizations, serving in positions such as vice president of the Nebraska Hall of Agricultural Achievement, president of the Alpha Gamma Rho Foundation and president of Ag Builders of Nebraska, among others. Wehrbein is being hosted by the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. |

Jeff Zeleny, '96Zeleny is being hosted by the College of Journalism and Mass Communications.
Jeff Zeleny is the national political correspondent for The New York Times. He is the newspaper's lead writer for the 2010 midterm election campaign, covering the Republican and Democratic parties, along with races for House, Senate and governor. He has written for several newspapers, including the Chicago Tribune where he was a member of the reporting team that won a Pulitzer Prize in explanatory journalism for documenting gridlock in the nation's air traffic system. He has covered the White House, traveling with President Barack Obama across the United States and the world. Zeleny is being hosted by the College of Journalism and Mass Communications. |
